The last several months have seen some wonderful times and changes for the Association, and we continue to trust that the Lord Jesus Christ is ruling over all things for the sake of His Church. Nothing can thwart the promise of Christ that He will build His Church, and the gates of Hell will not prevail against it. We trust that the Church, as the earthly manifestation of Christ's Kingdom, is advancing against the spiritual forces of evil, and it will spread throughout the whole earth like a large tree spreading out its branches.
Annual Meeting in September
The Alpine Association Annual Meeting held in Grande Prairie in September was a wonderful time of fellowship between several churches. Representatives and/or congregants from the following churches attended:
Uplands Baptist Church, Terrace
Cornerstone Baptist Church, Kamloops
Redeemer Baptist Church, Kelowna
Redeeming Grace Bible Church, Fairview (now Bluesky)
Coram Deo Baptist Church, Grande Prairie
Grace Community Church, Diamond City
Sovereign Grace Baptist Church, Taber
We enjoyed several sessions of wonderful teaching from Dr. John Snyder (pastor of Christ Church New Albany and Director of Media Gratiae), who came all the way from Mississippi with some other brothers from down South! Audio and video are available here. The messages were also adapted from a series called Studies for Christ's Under-Shepherds available on the Media Gratiae website here.
The singing and fellowship were very sweet at this meeting. It was a great joy for all. The volunteers of the church also did a wonderful job with meals and hospitality.
One matter of business of note was the formal acceptance of Redeeming Grace Bible Church into the association. Redeeming Grace has subsequently moved into their own church building in Bluesky, AB, after renting in Fairview for several years!
Some Changes
In the last few months we have also experienced some changes. Rory St. John resigned from his pastoral position in Grande Prairie, and the church there subsequently removed itself from the association. Rory has since taken up a call to be a pastoral assistant at Fairview Baptist Church in Calgary, Alberta, under the leadership of Pastor Tim Stephens. Since he is no longer in an Alpine member church, he has had to step away from the position of Moderator. Leyton Freeman has also stepped aside from his role as Vice Moderator. Both Rory and Leyton remain in fellowship with the association and look forward to continuing to be a part of it in a different capacity.
With the absence of a moderator and vice-moderator, at our last meeting on February 19th, there was a decision to appoint Zacharie Jean (Kamloops) as the moderator for now, with Ross Odnokon (Kelowna) and Aaron Hale (Bluesky) as vice-moderators (pending votes from the churches).
In the midst of the changes, we are looking forward in prayerfulness to what the Lord may do with our association of churches. To Him be the glory!
